future
Every child can learn to read, and it is time to prioritize literacy instruction, strategies, and methods that are proven to work.
Literacy is the Key is a public awareness campaign to build understanding, commitment, and support for improving literacy in Arizona.

Literacy
Powers
Learning.
The single most important key in preparing students for future learning and work is ensuring they can read by the end of the third grade.
We can make progress.
By utilizing proven reading strategies, we can make progress in increasing the number of Arizona students who read proficiently by third grade.
What it will take:
To significantly increase the number of proficient readers, we must bring proven and effective approaches to every student, in every classroom, in every community.
- We must leverage every dollar of our investment in what works to deliver meaningful results for our young learners.
- All schools should use high-quality instructional materials, coaching, and tools and be trained in the reading approaches proven to be successful in developing young readers.
- Families need to know how their children are progressing in reading, and how to support them at home.
The Literacy is the Key campaign is meant to reach these stakeholders:
- Education and School Leaders
- Teachers and Educators
- Families, Parents, and Caregivers
- Policymakers
- Community Organizations
- Educator Preparation Programs
