Governor Signs SB 1461

Breaking News: Governor signed SB 1461 on Thursday, March 26th.

This bill essentially outlines the list of reasons for promoting a student form the 3rd grade whose reading falls far below the 3rd grade level is expanded to include the school district or charter school governing board accepting a parent's request for an exemption that includes documentation and a rationale demonstrating that the student may have a speech and language impairment or significant reading impairment, including "dyslexia" (defined).  The school district or charter school is required to provide appropriate evidence-based reading support services and assistance to a student who is issued an exemption.
