Case Studies
Despite serving a large population of economically-disadvantaged students, including a contingent of refugee students who come to school with little or no English language skills, the educators at Roberts-Naylor K-8 have produced scores on Arizona's third grade English Language Arts assessment that exceeded the state average.
As part of our “Decoding What Works” series of case studies, Read On Arizona met with members of the Roberts-Naylor K-8 school community for insight into their approach to early literacy instruction:
- Using data to motivate and celebrate each student’s progress.
- Differentiating instruction and interventions.
- Supporting teachers to strengthen Tier 1 instruction.
About the Case Studies
Our "Decoding What Works" case studies highlight elementary schools and early learning programs in Arizona that have made exceptional gains in literacy and the strategies behind their success. Because understanding what is working for them can serve as guidance and inspiration for other educators, schools, and districts.
