On November 8, 2013, Mayor Greg Stanton hosted the Read On Arizona/Read On Phoenix Early Literacy Summit. Business and community leaders discussed early literacy strategies that could bolster the reading skills of Arizona’s children. Nonie Lesaux of Harvard keynoted the Summit and discussed language and literacy development; Barry Broome, former President and CEO of Greater Phoenix Economic Council talked with participants about how early literacy impacts economic development in the region.
