Read On North Gila County
Northern Gila County communities of Payson, Star Valley, Pine, Strawberry, Tonto Basin and Young are really excited to become a Read On Communities with an excited group of 36 partners located across the Northern Gila area. This effort is led by a partnership between Payson Library, City of Payson and First Things First which served to bring partners together to raise awareness of the importance of early literacy. Raising proficient readers is a high priority for the partners in Northern Gila County. With solid plans to expand economic development and vibrancy of the communities these partners realized that long term success of the region is directly related to the success of our children in developing reading proficiency.
Community activities will include:
- First Things First/Gila County Library/Dolly Parton Imagination Library – Provides monthly books for children Birth to Five
- Lady Bug – Magazine Club for Kindergarten Children
- Community Awareness/Mobilization
- Literacy Celebrations and Events
- Early Childhood Centers, Homes, Head Start and Pre-K Parent Child Reading Events
- Public School Parent-Child Reading Night
- Volunteerism
- Reading Tutors
- Yearly Read On Community Summit
